Obtaining a RAL Account
People who require a RAL account must first have a SLAC Unix account and
signed the Objectivity agreement. Users can request a RAL account by filling in this online web form. You will need the password you use to read HyperNews at SLAC to access this page. Also, new users should bear in mind that there is a one day delay between this password being activated at SLAC and being recognised at RAL. In order to obtain a RAL account the following information will be required:
- name,
- e-mail address,
- postal address (initial password will be sent here, but please specify a work address),
- phone number (if possible), and
- SLAC Unix account name.
Typically, 1-2 days later the details of the account (including
password) will be sent to the user's postal address. If there is any
delay in the issuing of an account (or you can't wait for the password
to be sent by post), don't hesitate to contact E.Olaiya@rl.ac.uk and CC to T.J.Adye@rl.ac.uk who will cover for him when unavailable. If your web browser is configured to send mail,
then you can use this cool link to
mail us both.
Using RAL
Documentation on the machines and software at RAL is
available.
Before using the RAL machines, you should check out (or subscribe to) the RAL
Tier A HyperNews Forum. This will keep you informed of changes, problems,
and outages in the systems. It is also a good forum to discuss problems.
Tim 'n Emmanuel can also help.
